* BCS (Bowl Championship Series) rankings determine which teams play in which bowl games. The formula that makes up the BCS rankings are calculated in a combined manner(AP Poll, Coaches Poll, computer rankings, Strength of Schedule etc) and takes the 6 BCS conference champion qualifiers (ACC, Big East, Big 10, Big 12, SEC, Pac 10) and 4 highly ranked non qualifier teams.

BCS Bowl Games
- National Championship Game (played in different locations) - features the top two teams in the BCS Standings to crown college football's national champion. The SEC has won the last 6 and 7 out of 13 of the championship games.

- Rose Bowl (Pasadena, CA)
Traditionally puts the Big 10 Champion -VS- Pac 12 Champion. It serves as the oldest bowl game (1902) and includes the tournament of Roses Parade.

- Fiesta Bowl (Glendale, AZ)
with the most diverse selection, the Fiesta Bowl has tie-ins with the ACC, SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Big East, Pac 12 and Notre Dame.

- Sugar Bowl (New Orleans, LA)
sponsored by Allstate and played in the historical Superdome, this bowl typically chooses the SEC Champion and a highly ranked at large bid team.

- Orange Bowl (Miami Gardens, FL)
The Orange Bowl tied with the Sugar and Sun Bowl as the oldest bowl game, usually features ACC / Big East champions against highly ranked at-large teams.
