The world of sports is changing

Post by MOEstradamus »

I am currently doing a essay on what ever i would like and mine is based on how the world is starting to change the sports world by adding something called MLG... Should it be considered a sport.

"A sport is commonly defined as an organized, competitive, and skillful physical activity requiring commitment and fair play. It is governed by a set of rules or customs."-wikipedia

see the key word is PHYSICAL ACTIVITY but some people say that golf is a very low PHYSICAL ACTIVITY you need hand eye coordination and strength along with a other things to be a good golfer.

Well MLG (Magor League Gaming) has came onto the scene many people have considered it a sport due to you need good hand eye coordination. It is a very organized and set thing that is taking the new generation by storm.

"Major League Gaming (MLG), founded in 2002[6] by Sundance DiGiovanni[7] and Mike Sepso[8][9], is a North American professional videogame league, headquartered in New York City, New York. MLG has held official video game tournaments throughout the United States and Canada. Major League Gaming competitions have been broadcast on national television,[9][10] ESPN.com,[11] other broadband sites.[12], and via mobile distribution.[citation needed] The company has also been involved in television production,[9] game development[13] and product licensing operations through MLG Properties and through MLG Management."-wikipedia

MLG has expanded you can find it on Doritos bags, Dr. Pepper bottles, and even Stride gum at times. It actually has tournaments for a very wide range of games from Halo3 all the way to tetris.

Halo 3 being the most popular has around 6 to 10 live tournaments a year. With over 250 teams that enter in every event. Teams show up with hours and hours of practice to try and achieve pro status.

What does pro status achieve you? A 250,000$ deal with MLG including prize money endorsements and even money from fellow players. The big movement behind this was Tom Taylor aka T2 he is the face of MLG. He has been on behind the lines on espn, True life ima professional gamer and at one time he was on every dr. pepper bottle in the world. He is so popular that he has a 3 month waiting list to play with him and learn from him and at 80$/hr he is making alot of money.

It is now being considered a sport in the eyes of many people now of days even people such as gilbert arenas and other pro athletes back this.

so do you think it should be considered a sport?
