In a brand spanking new interview with Above Ground Magazine, Brother Ali explained why he has been performing Eyedea’s song “Smile” while on tour (peep video below).

Ali’s friend and label-mate Eyedea died earlier this year from an apparent overdose from opiates (actual drug has never been released to the public) . Ali speaks on how he finds significance in last year’s song from Eyedea’s By The Throat album with DJ Abilities.

“It’s important for me that people still hear his music,” Ali told Above Ground, “and I think [‘Smile’ is] a really good one for people. Even people who aren’t huge fans — that didn’t really, really know his work that well. I think with that song, that even if you don’t know his whole catalog, that you can still see the greatness in that song.”
