The Nas – Nigga album controvery continues. Lawsuits seem to be in the works.

Besides all the civil right leads, who you would expect to be outraged. E.g,

Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

Now Brooklyn assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries is requiring the name of Nas’s album – Nigger, to be changed or Universal Music Group will risk 84 million dollar withdraw from investments.

I don’t think a Nas album will make them that much money back.

The New York State pension fund apparently invests in Vivendi, which is a parent

company to Universal. The invests are as high as 2.8 billion dollars.

Jeffries said “[They are] profiting from a racial slur that has been used to dehumanize people of color for centuries,” according to The Brooklyn Paper.

“It is time for Nas and other hip-hop artists to clean up their act and stop flooding the airwaves with the N-word.”

A spokesperson for Dinapoli, who oversees the New York State pension fund, basically

said they would be contacting Universal, and telling them to stop the Nas – Nigga

album from hitting shelves on Dec. 11.

Nas is telling Rolling Stone that the label has no problem with it. He also hopes

his album sparks discussion over the issue.

“It’s like talking to your child about sex,”

“It’s hard, but it’s important.”

“It’s probably going to make people uncomfortable. I don’t expect a lot of people to sell a record called ‘Nigger.’ Hopefully, people can open their minds up and lose some of their fear and deal with it. It’s just an album. It’s one piece of the many things I do, and this will be one of my favorite pieces.”

I can’t wait to see how Nas flips this album. Though at the least, I see the album being pushed back, which sucks for fans.
