Hip Hop Fashion tends to be expensive, especially since large corporations have decided to use the unique style as a means to rake in profits. Massive marketing ploys have went into promoting the clothing style, many iconic hip hop figures have their own clothing line, including Jay Z with “Rocafella – Clothing” and P Diddy with “Seans Combs – Clothing”.
Many artists have taken this opportunity to start their own clothing lines with some more successful than others. The hip hop entrepreneurs have even begun to sell items such as cologne, hats, and shades.
Hip Hop has mixed opinions about the role of materialism in its culture. Artists like “Public Enemy” are staunch advocates for the old school mentality while rappers like “Fabolous” flaunt their possessions.

This style is seen as ironic when in the 90’s and early 00’s, baggy pants, and loose fitting tee’s were the popular choice of hip hop dressers. It is much more similar to the 80’s style, that is more “Hipster” than “Gangster”.
Jay Z has started a backlash against the new style of hip hop, he has criticized the Hipster movement, and is using his own style, the all black look.
