Re: Akon or Lil wayne?
Have YOU heard him? People have such low standards for artistic ability these days. Next you'll tell me that Sean Kingston is an excellent vocalist. None of these cats can sing for shit. Akon, T-Pain, half these "R&B" cats out these days. Bunch of auto-tune using, wanna-be Nate Doggs. Hearing Akon's vocals reminds me of N.W.A's Automobile... the singing just can't be taken seriously. At least Lil Wayne has some creativity when he's not using auto-tune. But then I hear songs like Mrs. Officer and it takes everything I have in me to keep from vomiting. I used to think the 80s was the worst decade in music history. Its clearly the 2000s, save for a few rock bands and some underground hip-hop acts that formed in the 90s. Anything new these days pretty much fucking sucks. I'd rather listen to country than Lil Wayne or Akon and that's a pretty bold statement considering my tolerance level for that whole genre. Hop off the Gen-X bandwagon and think for yourselves for a minute. You've been brainwashed by the media into thinking these clowns are actually talented musicians. Wake the fuck up.
Re: Akon or Lil wayne?
This is Half Right. Music Doesn't Have To Necessarily Be Artistically Great Or Skillful in That Sense. But Creating Songs That Entertain And Sell To Millions Of People (No Matter How Stupid Said People Are) is a Skill On it's Own. Personally i Don't Like Most New R&B it's Boring as Fuck, But Something's Always Gnna Have a Fan No Matter How Shitty it is. Over-Exposure And Conformity Play a Big Part in Why These Artists Are Prominent (Don't Get Me Started On That Actually Lol), But Shit ill Even Bump That Kinda Music if im in The Mood For it Lol.TheRuckus wrote:You've been brainwashed by the media into thinking these clowns are actually talented musicians. Re: Akon or Lil wayne?
I understand that people like certain kinds of music. And I also understand that whether or not a person is a talented artist is completely subjective. But, they have the liberty of expressing their opinion, as do I. They like them, that's fine, but I disagree with them. Nothing wrong with that. I just think its rather insulting to quite a few artists that I think deserve more recognition when magazines go around saying that Lil Wayne is the best rapper alive right now. Could you imagine what Marvin Gaye, Frank Sinatra, any legendary vocalist would think if they heard Akon sing? They would wonder how the fuck this dude got a record deal. But you're right, the industry has the clout to market this shit and kids these days will latch on to any trend without questioning it if they believe that someone else out there thinks its cool. They don't like Akon and Lil Wayne because they produce extraordinary musical talent, they like them because they're pop sensations and think they're cool for being a fan. How many of these posers listened to Lil Wayne when he was in the Hot Boyz? I'm all about being open minded towards things like music, but you gotta draw the line somewhere. I love hip-hop with a passion, but it just rubs me the wrong way when I look at who's on top of the "game" and who's not. Even Roger Troutman would be turning in his grave if he heard this auto-tune bullshit. They just can't do it like Roger & Zapp back in the day. It just seems like the industry is getting lazier and lazier while the cats out there keeping it real and raw like hip-hop was back in the day are having to sell out just to pay the bills. But luckely there are sites like this keeping the spirit alive and not conforming to the trends. The cats who remember Yo! MTV Raps not 106 & Park. The cats who do it because they love it, not because it made em rich or its cool.

So yes, Nas said it perfectly. Hip-hop IS dead. Because the only REAL hip-hop left is Underground.
