DJ Kay Slay's flagship artist for StreetSweeper's Entertainment, Papoose, may get a healthy reward, in the form of beats by Dr. Dre, for waiting to release his debut set 'The Nacerima Dream.'
"It ain't final till it's final," said Papoose. "I got some joints though." The Jive Records LP reportedly already boasts production by DJ Premier, Kanye West and Pharrell Williams among others, and Papoose is confident it will be worth the wait.
"At the end of the day, my material, my music speaks for itself," he says. "I never came into this with no gimmick. I always came with pure talent, pure material. I ain't gon let ya'll down with this album, straight up and down. My album gon' make history."
The Brooklyn native, in conjunction with Kay Slay, has released almost twenty mixtapes since 2004, garnering praise for his ability to toe the line between rapping knowledge and reinforcing his street rep on the mic. Busta Rhymes is one who took notice of the new comer; last year he added his Flipmode movement to the forces trying to propel Papoose to new heights. Prior to linking up with StreetSweepers Entertainment Busta signed a deal with Dr. Dre's label, Aftermath Records. 'The Nacerima Dream' is scheduled for a 2007 release.
