Remy Ma aka Remy Smith's attorney Ivan Fisher admitted in closing arguments yesterday that his client did in fact shoot her former friend, Makeda Barnes-Joseph, but that the gun went off accidentally during a dispute over cash, according to the Associated Press.
Fisher told the jury that the gun went off when Remy's hand struck the rearview mirror during the altercation.
"There is no other explanation for why Remy Smith would have chosen that unique moment in time to shoot her," Fisher said.
The admission of shooting came as a surprise to many, Remy has maintained since the incident that she did not shoot Barnes-Joseph.
"I didn't shoot my friend!" Remy once yelled to a group of reporters outside of her New Jersey home in July.
Assistant District Attorney Michael McIntosh has a very different view of the shooting however.
"She took every step you had to take to shoot somebody," McIntosh said.
Jury deliberation begins today. If found guilty, Ma faces up to 25 years in prison.
