Besides Joell Ortiz return to the classics this is one of the best mixtapes to be put out so far this year. New York hip hop from 1994-2001 were the best years ever in hip hop. All of these songs evoke different emotions in me when I listen to them again after a few years. This era of hip hop is what I grew up on and will never forget. Kevin Casey did an excellent job selecting the tracks from these yesteryear’s that truly capture the sound of New York during that time. You really need to download this tape right now. I have lost a lot of these songs over the years in changing computers, iPods, hard drives, etc…

Excellent mixtape.
this is an interesting stretch of years that the mixtape focuses on: ’94-’01….. eight years. when we talk about the golden age of Hip Hop, the consensus is that it lasted from ’88 to about ’97. so that puts the end of the golden age as the midway point of this mixtape’s eight year focus. that’s significant in NYC Hip Hip because while rap was going pop, artists still wanted to preserve the underground scene. the joints we find here that came out after ’97 (such as “Banned from TV”) represent that.
