Tech N9ne is being sued for $25,000 by another Kansas City record label, that claims the rapper’s Strange Music recorded their artist illegally.
Klosed Kustody Records filed the lawsuit in the Circuit Court of Jackson County in the State of Missouri against Strange Music and Tech N9ne, born Aaron Yates.
According to the complaint, Klosed Kustody entered into a series of longterm contracts with Brandon Evans aka Bizzy.
Klosed Kustody claims they were managing Bizzy.
The lawsuit also states the company own the exclusive rights to Bizzy’s publishing, as well as the rights to release the rapper’s music through their Klosed Kustody Records imprint.
In the Winter of 2010, Klosed Kustody allegedly introduced Bizzy to TechN9ne, who knew of the agreement between Bizzy and his label.
“After their introduction to Evans, Defendants began a course of conduct which interfered with the contracts between Klosed Kustody and Evans,” the complaint states.
TechN9ne is accused of illegally featuring Bizzy on the albums Collabos: The Gates Mixed Plate and the video/mixtape, “Sex to the Beat.”
TechN9ne heads up Strange Music, a veteran label that has sold millions of units independently since being launched in 1999.
The label’s roster includes artists like Krizz Kaliko, Jay Rock, Kutt Calhoun, Brotha Lynch Hung and TechN9ne himself.
Klosed Kustody claims Tech N9ne’s influential Strange Music imprint used their “superior name, recognition and established position in the entertainment industry to induce Evans [Bizzy] to repeatedly violate his contract.”
In addition to the $25,000, Klosed Kustody is seeking to have all offending product removed from stores, as well as punitive damages.
