Re: Some of your Favorite Beats?
You can use any of the ones I posted in Producer's Lounge. Otherwise, Mass Effect and Jesus have some I'm sure you could use. But if you're inquiring about some instrumentals or tracks from well-known producers, then here's a list of some of my favorite beats:
RJD2 - Counseling (kinda up-tempo track with a big brass/horn melody... would be great for a grandiose/brag rap)
Termanology - So Amazing (DJ Premier beat, need I say more?)
Snowgoons - Who (hard piano track, bust out yer rough shit to this one)
Blue Scholars - The Long March (nice smooth, slower tempo with a feel good vibe)
Jake One - Home (more atmospheric with an underlying soul sample and smooth beat)
Copywrite - Fucksoundcheck (another RJD2 cut, big horns and a nice jazzy sound to it)
Brother Ali - Begin Here (very chilled, jazz sound, perfect for some heartful words)
Little Brother - War (9th Wonder track, mellow track with smooth sampling)
Evidence - Born in L.A. (Alchemist track, another hard hittin banger)
Cage - Good Morning (smooth electric guitar type track)
Black Milk - Hell Yeah (got kind of a military drum roll to it. nice and grimey)
Royce Da 5'9 - Soldier (ill track, sounds like the drums were made with pipes and wrenches lol, nice electric guitar bassline)
The Cool Kids - Black Mags (basic beat, synth bass, booming drums, has an old school vibe to it, but still be a fun track to spit over)
Hopefully this will give you some ideas. Should be able to find some instrumentals. Check jamglue.com, I find a bunch of instrumental tracks on there. Otherwise, RJD2, DJ Premier, 9th Wonder, Alchemist, Dilla, Blockhead, all have tons of instrumentals out there that you can jack for a mixtape. Or you can just strip the vocals from tracks. I think Cool Edit can do it, or at least I thought I did it once on there but couldnt remember what I did lol. I've got a ton more beats if you want some unheard shit though.
