XM Satellite Radio has began airing a new hip-hop show, SHINE, as a venue for unsigned artists who are often overlooked by the major media to showcase their skills. “I wanted to do an unsigned radio show to provide a place where the artist wouldn’t have to feel the pressure of radio politics,” says host DJ Furious Styles, who originally started the show in 1996 on American University’s college radio station in Washington, D.C.“These artists have an extremely hard time getting air play on a local level, but now they have the opportunity to get played on a national level,” he added, with the show potentially reaching over 20 million listeners. SHINE airs on Satellite radio’s Channel 66 RAW on Thursday at 9 a.m. (EST), and on Friday at 12 a.m. (EST).
