Remy Ma assault trial begins

The assault trial for Remy Ma aka Remy Smith, opened yesterday, with prosecutors claiming Remy shot a friend because she thought the women had stolen money from her, according to the Associated Press.

Lawyers for Remy however claim the July 14 shooting was "a tragic accident."

Prosecutor Jason Berland said Remy shot two .45-caliber slugs into Makeda Barnes Joseph's abdomen, then took off in a Cadillac Escalade, which she crashed into a parked car a few blocks away.

Prosecutors then allege Remy abandoned the car and fled to a friends house, where she didn't even bother to call police or medical assistance.

Defense attorney Ivan Fisher says Joseph's story has changed since she testified before a grand jury, and that the gun went off accidentally when the two women stuggled over it.
