EXACTLY .. My Point.. Stereo Types Plex

Like Lets Say For Black People..
People can Say "Black People got baggy jeans, Talk With Slang" Etc..
But Then Look At The African Continent . How Many Black People Live On That Continent?
How Can People Say "Act" a Certain Color... When People are Soo Different

Because society is close minded and so brain fucked that it's easier to pick a stereotype and label a whole group of people than to know each one individually.

Exactly what Plex said...
Stereotypes.

For example...lets take clothing...(keep in mind this is 1 example)

I'm sure if we played a little game here...people would be able to match the clothing description to the race that's insinuated.

Clothing No. 1
-Beige Khaki's with a cuff at the bottom
-White wife-beater
-plaid long-sleeve with just the top button (or 2) buttoned up.
-ol skool pair of chuck-taylors on the feet
-hair-net
-gold chain and peice around the neck

Clothing No. 2
-baggy pair of Girbaud's
-pressed white-tee
-bape's zip-up hoodie
-clean Tim's on the feet
-Doo-rag on the dome
-Platinum (or atleast knock-off Plat) around the neck

Clothing No. 3
-denim washed American Eagle jeans (boot cut)
-Abercrombie slim Tee
-some Etnies or Osiris kicks
-college team cap with a tear in the brim of the bill (the bill on the cap is always bent...never flat)
-hemp and stone necklace around the neck

Now can you guess which clothing number goes to which race!?

A. Mexican
B. White
C. Black

I'm sure you can...I know I can.

If you can "dress" a race's color (so to speak)...then you can act that way as well. I'm not going to lie. I dress "black"...but that's just the swagga that I carry about myself. Not because I'm not proud of being a spic...but I just like black-peoples style. And I go with what I like. If other people ain't feelin it...then they ain't gotta associate with me.

i agree with haz.

wat i dont understand is why ppl hafta to single out some one or a group by their clothing.
maybe they are just comfortable or they like the style.so it just happens that blacks like
baggy jeans white tees and a nice 5 6 fitted or goths like black clothing a shit load of eye
liner and chains. maybe they just like it. its fuckin embarrassing how some one can say
u act black, u act mexican ect ect. believe it or not (lol) ppl say that i try to act black because
A.) i rap and B.)i just happen to wear "black-gangster"clothing. but the matter of the fact is
i dont tryto do anything. i just like the style of clothin and the fit. one day i might have on
a 5 6 fitted with NY on it pair of hurricanes a 2 pac shirt wit shit on it a chain (not real expensive)
and some south pole pants and the next ill be all american eagle. but yet no one says that i try
to be a prep, just when i wear "non prep" cloths i seem to be acting black.its fuckin redic.
how ppl do that shit. its not what they wear its who they are.

Nah...i know what ur sayin. And me sayin that I dress "black" isn't even an ignorant statement. That's why I put "quotes" around the word...cuz I'm catagorizing they style that I hold.

See...people say White, Black, Mexican, Chinese, etc etc as quick generalization.
Everybody knows there's different types of blacks out there and not just 1 kind.
Same with Latinos.
You got Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Cubanos, Brazilians, Venuzuelians, etc, etc.
Every general color has alot of sub-cultures and races in it.
Blacks have Nigerians, Kenyans, Jamacians, Hatians, Egyptians, etc etc.

But here's the thing. People abbreviate shit. Or catagorize things just to make it easier. So they do it by color for sum reason...that's become the American habit. Like say you had a "Rasta-style" about you...most people aren't gonna say, "Hey...why you dressin all Jamacian?" Why!? I dunno...maybe cuz it sounds weird. But they'll ask, "Why you dressin black?" Because it's a "black" style. It's not going into detail of what kind of black...people speak black in general.

Notice how you were able to tell which clothing style was associated to what race.

It's not ignorance fam...it's just American habit of culture catagorizing. It's all part of living in the melting pot. We just don't specify when we speak. Like if someone said, "Look at that dude with the Turban, that smells like curry and owns the 711 down the block!" Someones gonna ask if it's the "Indian" guy. But we all know there's different types of indian. But for the sake of conversation...whos gonna sit and specify? They're not. They're just gonna say indian to speed along the conversation.

Like being Mexican. I can usually tell a Mexican apart from a cuban and a puerto-rican. But most white dudes or black dudes can't. But see...I'm directly link'd within that culture and I can tell all the little variables that seperates us from accents to clothing styles. To me...I can spot a puerto rican...but to most white people it's "just that mexican guy" or "latino" over there.

So that's what it is in my opinion. We use race or color as a category to single individuals out. It just makes for quicker conversation. Who needs details!? I know what I am. I know how I dress and how I talk. And I don't care one way or another is someone thinks I'm acting "out of race"...i take pride in myself enough to not sweat the small shit.

very good argument Kurse i agree with u 100%
i think when it all comes down to it.Americans
are just either A.)not educated enough to
tell the difference or to know that there is
a difference or B.)they're lazy

Hazard - I'm not arguing with your point. America =/= white. Being "American" just means you're a citizen. White is still a dominant race but the other races are growing at a rapid rate. America is a huge melting pot of different cultures.

I'm not a fan of stereotypes at all

I can wear an AC/DC shirt with some jeans and people will think I'm a rocker (which I do listen to metal and rock)
I can wear a tall tee just because it's comfortable and I like my jeans baggy and I'm classified as a wigger.
I can wear an Under Armour shirt and some shorts and I'll be called a stereotypical "Jock".

The fact is, there's tons of stereotypes and classifications for people that just show blatant ignorance. Labeling someone without knowing them is a common habit amongst society, no matter how retarded it is, it happens. It's one of those things in life, like Harle said, won't be changed.

It can't be changed. Why? There will ALWAYS be someone who is nothing more than a societal sheep and will use stereotypes and classifications.

Just something you have to live with.

It's not even sumthin that's bad either.

Like I said...it's an American habit...and believe me, we Americans do have some bad habits.
But like I mentioned...i think it's just a way of quickly describing sumthin to move conversation along.

Like look at rap music. It was once considered "Black music"...to some people it still is. And no...that doesn't make that person ignorant...that's just the way they have it categorized in their mind.

Eminem has even talked about it on the record.
"Getting rich off of black peoples music similar to Elvis Presley"

When you categorize...it's usually based off of majority statistics. Like finding a black dude who doesn't like chicken doesn't make him less black! But the majority of black people do like chicken...Chapelle has joked about it openly. haha

The thing is...is you have to be okay with these things. Don't get so bent out of shape the moment someone says that ur acting a different race or color. Instead of complaining about it...
why not just say...
"Thank you...I do it quite well don't I!?" and just be proud of that shit.

Me. My name's Kurse.
I'm a spic
I have some white friends
I do black music
aaaaaand I like chicken.

Deal with it.

Just be comfortable in your skin.

Ok Get This Right.

When They Say 'That White Person is Acting Black', it's Because They've Obviously Copied it From a Black Person.
